Better Boys Foundation KNIT IN
September 22, 2012 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Better Boys Foundation is hosting its first annual KNIT IN on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the BBF Center (1512 South Pulaski Rd.).
Designed as the crafter’s alternative to the charity walk, run or race, KNIT IN will raise funds to support KnitLAB@1512, BBF’s knitting apprenticeship. Registered KNIT IN knitters will solicit donors who will support them by pledging a certain dollar amount per row knit during the KNIT IN. Knitters of all skill levels will work on a set pattern of equal width at the KNIT IN, contributing the work they complete toward a public art piece that will adorn the BBF Center. KNIT IN check-in will begin at 9:00am, knitting will commence at 10:00am, and Piece Pizza and the Signature Room will generously provide lunch at noon. Knit 1 Chicago and Coats & Clark are the official sponsors of KNIT IN, providing yarn and needles for all of the dedicated KNIT IN knitters.
KNIT IN will bring the Chicago knitting community together to support KnitLAB@1512, one of BBF’s most popular youth apprenticeships. KnitLAB is a textile arts workshop through which youth learn the basics of knitting—slip knots, casting on, knit and purl stitches, increasing/decreasing stitches, reading patterns, and binding off. KnitLAB also takes its work into the North Lawndale community via approved “knit tagging” and public art installations. Knitting related field trips, master classes, knitting bazaars and other activities are also offered to KnitLAB apprentices. KnitLAB is taught by a professional artist with a BA in Fine Arts from Northern Michigan University. The group takes orders for custom projects and displays its work here.
Join us for the KNIT IN and show your support for KnitLAB@1512.
