Member Biography: Sharon Muecke

When did you first start knitting/why?

I started knitting in 2005. I'd always been interested, but when my Mom learned, I thought I should also sign up for a class.

Who taught you to knit?

I took my first class at Kool Knits (no longer in business) in downtown Naperville, IL.

Do you knit English/American style, German/Continental style, backwards? Left-handed? Eastern cross method? Peruvian-style? please describe.

English/American.

Do you have a knitting philosophy, and what is it. What helped you form your philosophy?

No philosophy, but I can say that I'm definitely not an intuitive knitter. I prefer to work from a good pattern, letting someone else do the design work.

Have you ever taught someone to knit?

I've tried, but it's never stuck.

What is your very favorite knitting book and why?

Probably anything by the Yarn Harlot.

Do you knit for a living/have your own business?

No.

What projects are you working on now?

I finished a cabled hat last night, and am also working on a lace scarf.

What is your very favorite yarn?

Probably Malibrigo Chunky.

What is the worst thing you ever knit?

My first hat could have fit three heads inside it.

Why do you like to knit?

It's a creative outlet with an orderly feel. Therefore it fills my need to be creative while giving me measureable goals and accomplishments.

When do you knit?

At night and on the weekends; on car trips; on airplanes.

What is your favorite part of the knitting process?

Everything but seams and weaving in ends.

How long have you been knitting?

4 years.

What do you like about our guild?

I just joined, but I'm looking forward to keeping informed about events, stores, new books, etc.

Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?

No, but I also bead.
