Member Biography: Joan Ambo

When did you first start knitting/why?

I have always been interested in art, when I was in first grade one of the mothers at my school taught me to knit.

Do you knit English/American style, German/Continental style, backwards? Left-handed? Eastern cross method? Peruvian-style? please describe.

I knit Continental and sometimes backwards in stockinette.

Do you have a knitting philosophy, and what is it. What helped you form your philosophy?

It’s just knitting, nobody will die if I make a mistake, and if it’s wrong I can just frog it – even if it is mohair.

Have you ever taught someone to knit?

No. I have tried, but I am terrible at teaching knitting!

What projects are you working on now?

Far too many!

What is your very favorite yarn?

I don’t have a favorite.

What is the best thing you ever knit?

An intarsia flag sweater for my oldest son.

What is the worst thing you ever knit?

The hideous red pullover that I bound off and assembled by crocheting was the worst thing I ever knit. I could barely get it over my head!

Why do you like to knit?

It’s very soothing and I love to make things.

When do you knit?

I knit whenever I have the time and inclination.

How long have you been knitting?

I have been knitting sporadically over about 30+ years.

What do you like about our guild?

The wide range of skills and experience make the guild a very enriching environment for learning about knitting.

Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?

Laundry.
